COMPANY PERSONNEL

The company team consists of the directors, Brian Cunningham and Marian Harkness, and their assistant, Janet Green.

Brian Cunningham
Brian was born in Dunedin and educated at Otago Boys High School. As with many, he did not have a clearly defined career path when he left secondary school.  For  the next five years he worked in the New Zealand Forest Service, spent some time as a farm labourer, and then worked in the family business which was a high volume service station outlet in Dunedin.

In those years, the late 60s, and again as with many, Brian left for overseas on what was commonly referred to as the "big OE".

Although the initial plan was for a stay of 12-18 months overseas, the time extended out to nearly seven years before returning to New Zealand.  The majority of the time overseas was spent in the employ of Plessey UK where Brian worked as a setter/operator of precision grinding machines producing gears for hydraulic pumps.  However, the call of New Zealand became very strong and the return to New Zealand was made by aircraft this time - not nearly as appealing as the outward trip by ship!

With nearly seven years of the "school of life's experience" Brian was back in New Zealand still with no clearly defined career path.  New Zealand, in the late 60s however, did present many opportunities to enter challenging career paths and, after a short period, Brian entered the pharmaceutical industry.  This proved to be not only challenging but also rewarding in that technical knowledge was, and is, the cornerstone of the industry.

After a number of years as a pharmaceutical representative, Brian became involved in both the medical and scientific equipment fields and became a divisional manager for a large multinational company.  In this role he worked closely with customers in the medical, scientific and diagnostic fields and continues to do so until the present time.

Although a country boy at heart, Brian is very happy to now be living in Auckland with its remarkable great sailing waters of the region, giving him access to the sport of yachting which is a fulfilling and rewarding leisure activity.

In recent years Brian has become increasingly aware of the environmental damage we are causing Planet Earth and, as a consequence, is now deeply involved in Hytek Solutions and it's unique products as a means to address its mission statement of "working towards a safer and healthier environment."

Marian Harkness
Marian owned a glass company for 11 years before joining Hytek Solutions Ltd.  She has a publishing and sales background both in the United Kingdom and New Zealand. She has worked on magazine contents in both countries and also personally published a yachting magazine.  Marian was Public Relations Officer for Television New Zealand for several years before being offered the opportunity to start up a publishing division.  This resulted in the publication of sporting magazines such as Rugby and Olympic Games as well as books ranging from those based on children's programmes to a Country Calendar book and calendar as well as stories about the legal cases of Alfred Hanlon, based on the TV series.

Marian's interests include flying light aircraft.  She worked for the Cessna Aircraft Company in both Central Africa and New Zealand and gained her Private Pilot's licence in UK.  Her other interests are herbs and spices (she has written and published a book), yachting, and competitive swimming.

Her special interest is in promoting sun safety and helping to avoid skin cancer.
